Welcome to Topeka Postcard
The Topeka Postcard website is an effort for us to share the history of Topeka, Kansas through postcards. This site is a dedication to my Father Arthur Barry Gentry, or as we like to call him... Dad! Barry began collecting postcards in the early 1990's and has amassed a collection of over 600 cards since. These cards represent a history of Topeka that has not been seen by most eyes. That is why we would love to give you the chance to see what he has collected. Allot of the structures, parks, schools, etc. are not even standing any longer or have been moved to a different location. I get personally amazed at how our city has matured over the years but I am also fascinated to see the beautiful structures that used adorn our skyline.

Topeka, Kansas was founded in 1854 and was Incorporated in 1857, historians report that Topeka was a key figure in the westward expansion of the railroad and settled by Lawrence and New England antislavery supporters during the nineteenth century. Topeka was selected state capital when Kansas was admitted to the Union in 1861. Here we are 150 plus years later, and it really makes you wonder where we will be in another 150 years.

I hope you enjoy yourself as you spend time looking through the postcards. I must tell you that a large portion of these cards still have the original handwriting, stamps and signatures on the backs of them. Some of the letters are fascinating to say the least but out of respect to the original authors we have chosen not to show the backs of the cards. Feel free to write us at topekapostcard.com under our contact us link with any questions or comments you may have.

If you have postcards of your own about Topeka, and wish to share them with us you can e-mail a scanned image of them to us through the contact us link at the top of the site or mail them to us. You will find all of our contact information under the contact us link as well. If you would like your card returned to you after we post it please let us know in the e-mail or letter. If cards are donated they will be scanned in to a digital image and then safely stored and archived. We understand how much of a treasure these cards can be, that's why we created Topekapostcard.com.
